Why We Started Dubird

Every product we make starts with the same question: why doesn't something better exist?

Dubird grew out of two obsessions — vinyl records and indoor plants. We'd spent years finding records we loved, buying plants we couldn't stop collecting, and then struggling to display either of them in a way that felt worthy. Record sleeves propped against walls. Plants shoved into corners. It felt like a waste.

So we started designing our own stands. Simple, considered objects built to put the things you love front and centre — literally.

We're based in Melbourne, and that matters to us. Melbourne has a particular kind of taste: understated, a little particular, not interested in things that are just okay. That sensibility shapes everything we make. Clean lines, solid materials, colours that feel deliberate rather than accidental.

The name Dubird came from a combination of the two worlds we live in — the music we play and the greenery we grow. It's a small brand, and we like it that way. Every product gets proper attention. Nothing ships until we'd put it in our own home.

We started with record stands because that's where the gap was clearest. We've since added plant stands, slipmats, and the Hollywood Bowls — and there's more coming. But the reason behind each one is always the same: something we wanted to exist that didn't.
